Tsitsikamma Adventure Route

The Tsitsikamma area is covered in indigenous forest, commercial plantations and Fynbos, stretching from the Bloukrans River in the west to Eerste Rivier in the east. The Tsitsikamma mountains form the border in the north, with the Indian ocean in the south. Tsitsikamma is a khoi wording meaning “place of abundance or sparkling water”.

The area’s mild all year climate allows visitors to make the most of the outdoor adventure activities on offer. The deep river gorges cut their way into the landscape as the water makes its way down to the sea, creating spectacular waterfalls and deep kloofs along the path. Lush vegetation is one of the areas main characteristics and this is due to the high rainfall experienced annually.

Accommodation providers in the quaint Stormsriver Village offer visitors options in hotels, guesthouses, self catering units or backpacker units. This area is truly one of adventure activities with the famous Tsitsikamma Canopy tour, Segway tour, Blackwater tubing as well as mountain bike rentals to cycle through the old pass, ending at a viewpoint overlooking the Stormsriver mouth and suspension bridge.  The world’s largest protea farm is situated just outside of Eersterivier and it’s a truly inspiring project to experience.

Spectacular scenery in the Tsitsikamma National Park will take your breath away as you walk to the Stormsriver mouth and suspension bridge and along the first part of the Otter Trail to the waterfall.  For those seeking an intense adrenalin rush, the highest commercial bungy jump in the world is situated on the Bloukrans River Bridge, run by FaceAdrenalin. Numerous adventure activities are on offer in the area, including zipline tours across rivers, kayaking or a lilo trip. This truly is the adventure capital of the Eastern Cape.
