Visas

A visa allows visitors to proceed to a port of entry in South Africa where an immigration officer will determine if you satisfy the basic requirements for entry to South Africa. The visa ensures that all visitors are screened properly before entering a country, providing immigration officials with the correct information needed before admitting visitors through the border.

Requirements for entering South Africa

- A valid visa if required

- A return ticket

- A valid passport or travel document

- At least one blank page in your passport for endorsements

- Yellow fever certificates if your journey starts or passes through the yellow fever belt of Africa or South America.

US passport holders do not need a visa to enter South Africa. A valid passport is all that is required for a stay of up to 90 days.

Enquiries about visas can be made through the Department of Home Affairs in South Africa on +27 11 461 9252 (overseas callers), 0800 60 11 90 (within SA). Email: csc@dha.gov.za
